MAY is set to be a ripper of a month in Ballarat, and we're about to tell you why.
Whether it's food, history, music or shopping that you seek, you'll be sure to find an event that suits.
Taking place throughout the entire month of May, this foodie festival will showcase the best in western Victoria's produce and will feature 38 drool-worthy events, a pie competition, a whole lotta workshops, and the chance to wine and dine at the city's most exclusive and elusive eateries.
The annual Clunes Booktown Festival will return to the region in May, transforming the iconic goldrush town into a thriving thoroughfare of literary art. The two-day event will be held on May 5 and 6, with Clunes's main street created into a mystical landscape of books, books, and more books.
Festival-goers will have the chance to fossick through rare and collectible books, go inside heritage buildings, listen to live music, sample sampling local food and wine, watch street performers, visit exhibitions, and immerse themselves in the stories of the past, present and future.
3. Mother's Day
Mother's Day provides you with the chance to explore all of Ballarat's unique retail offerings and to find a present for Mum that you can't get anywhere else. With a wealth of boutiques and independent retailers, you'll be spoilt for choice! Plus, you'll be able to scoop up a little somethin' somethin for yourself. Check out our guide here.
This year's Heritage Weekend is set to celebrate the evolution of technology over the last 100 years, featuring a virtual reality city tour, smartphone scavenger hunt and robot making workshops. The festival program will also include all the usuals, including horse-and-carriage rides, fashion parades and vintage club cars, and art exhibitions. There's definitely something for all ages.
Ballarat popstars The Mavis's will be heading to Ballarat in May as part of the 20th anniversary of their hit album Pink Pills. Featuring songs spanning all three of their career albums, this show will bring with it a hint of nostalgia for all the 90s teens out there.
Ballarat Heritage Weekend will also host a two-night music extravaganza, with local musicians performing one song from 1918 through to today. Get set to revel in the rock n roll sounds of the 50s, the disco grooves of the 70s and the pop tunes of today.

The Fabulous Maude exhibition will examine the struggles faced by female artists in Australia and the way these obstacles can help create the richest creative response.
Held at The Lost Ones contemporary gallery, the group exhibition will showcase the contrasts and commonalities between pioneering 1800s Creswick female artist Maude Glover Fleay and a group of today's modern Ballarat contemporary female artists.
Inspired by the life and works of Maude, the show will celebrate her work as a botanical artist and an environmentalist who was ahead of her time.
