The Plate Up Ballarat story

BALLARAT is fast becoming known as the culinary heart of Victoria and it is for this very reason Kate Davis launched Plate Up Ballarat, the May festival dedicated to all things gastronomic in the region.

“For me, it was time to put Ballarat on the culinary must-visit map,” Kate said. “Ballarat is experiencing a food revolution and I wanted to shine the light on this booming scene whilst showcasing our local producers, chefs, restaurants, cafes, winemakers and brewers.”

“People are expecting the same offerings, services and standard they are used to in Melbourne and we have some incredible locals who have led the way with dynamic offerings that are second-to-none.”

And so, in 2018, Plate Up Ballarat was born – an innovative month-long festival showcasing the best culinary offerings while solidifying the city’s name as a food, wine and beer hub.

Kate said the Plate Up calendar was all about the curation of unique event experiences, giving guests insights into the local epicurean scene.

The recipient of numerous awards and accolades from industry leaders, the festival was granted further funding last year to create an accompanying Eat Drink West directory – a platform where venue operators and consumers can access information related to the region’s produce.

“It’s the link in the food chain from growers to producers to artisans to chefs to makers to consumers,” Kate said.
