Technology meets heritage

Calling all tech heads! Ballarat Heritage Weekend is fastly approaching and this year's theme  ‘100 Years of Technology and Innovation’ is something not be missed. With roaming robots, virtual reality tours and displays of technological development, even the not-so-tech-savvy of us will be intrigued by what's on offer.

Robots will have a strong presence at this year's event, with a Robot Workshop featuring Tubby the Robot. The workshop will take you through the history of robots as well as an opportunity to build and dress up as a robot. A roaming interactive robot can also be spotted throughout town, as it walks the streets presenting the unexpected.

 Virtual Reality

See Ballarat like never before through the lens of virtual reality, with guided tours inviting you to take a look at Ballarat up and under. Under, you’ll get a glimpse of Ballarat’s underground shopfronts, tunnels and cells, as well as some of Ballarat’s tallest towers. The old Ballarat Goal will be opened for a virtual tour, where you can take a look at inaccessible underground goal cells, as well as the colourful history of the building.

Learn just how technological innovation has played a strong part in allowing us to delve deeper into our past. Discussions with David Hunt – a TEDx speaker and best-selling, award-winning author - and other key note speakers will take a look at these developments over time and how Australia’s past is still relevant today. A Technology Trail will also provide a glimpse into the development in technology as well as the opportunity to see a 3D printer in action.
