BALLARAT’s undercurrent of creativity, productivity and craftsmanship will be showcased at the inaugural Made of Ballarat Marketplace on Saturday, May 4.
Presented in conjunction with Eat Drink West, the market will feature a unique blend of local artisans and producers selling their wares under the one roof at the historic Ballarat Mining Exchange.
This is your opportunity to witness their passion up close and gain an intimate understanding of how and why they do what they do.
Those on show will include The Mushroom Connection, Sally’s Paddock, Best’s Wines, Del Rios, Tuki Trout Farm, Salt Kitchen Charcuterie, 1816 Bakery, Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat, Millbrook Free Range, and many, many more.
You can even go behind the scenes with the producers themselves at one of the market workshops:
- 10am: The essentials of preparing fresh trout with Tuki Trout Farm
Tuki Trout Farm's Robert Jones will take you through the filleting and preparing process to the many different styles of cooking trout.
- 11am: The art of dry curing with Salt Kitchen Charcuterie
Mick Nunn from Salt Kitchen Charcuterie will discuss the ancient art of dry curing meat. He will discuss salting, netting and hanging products such as capocollo, lonza, pancetta and breasola, and will do a demonstration of how to net a product before it is hung for dry curing.
- 12pm: To bee or not to bee with Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat
Join the the buzz about backyard beekeeping with the team from Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat.
- 2pm: Canapé demonstration with Peter Ford Catering
Watch as Peter Ford puts together one of his signature canapés featuring Sher Wagyu beef, Asian flavours and deliciousness. Peter will take you through the steps in prepping and presenting one of his most popular and sought-after canapés.
Each 45-minute workshop costs $25 per person. Bookings are a must to avoid disappointment. Participants must be aged over 12 years.
The Made of Ballarat Marketplace will be held on Saturday, May 4, at the Ballarat Mining Exchange, 12 Lydiard St Nth, between 10am and 4pm. Entry to the market is by gold coin donation in support of the Ballarat Foundation's Feed Ballarat initiative.
