2018 TAB Inter Dominion

The Ballarat & District Trotting Club will play host to the biggest event in harness racing history on December 4, the 2018 TAB Inter Dominion. Returning to Victoria after a 10-year hiatus, the night will also feature free children’s activities and games plus internationally-recognised Ballarat illustrator Travis Price who will paint a huge 21-metre mural under the club's grandstand.

Balla and Pete's Arts Trail

Explore the Christmas tale of Balla-Rat's star with this special festive art trail. Join rats Balla and Pete in their merry escapade around town as they search for the perfect star to adorn their Christmas tree. There are 10 mind-bending interactive artworks to discover, with photo opportunities dotted along the trail.

Christmas Day lunch at The George Hotel

Forget about slaving over a hot stove this Christmas Day and instead indulge in a mouth-watering buffet lunch at The George Hotel. Enjoy all the flavours of the festive season, from the land to the sea, for $125 (adults) or $60 (children 14 years and under). Bookings are essential.  

Australian Jazz Convention

From Boxing Day until New Year's Eve, Ballarat will be filled with the sweet sounds of jazz when more than 1000 musicians and delegates attend the 73rd annual Australian Jazz Convention. In addition to scheduled performances, you'll find musicians jamming in parks, on the street and in the city's pubs.

Art exhibitions

In a regional Victoria exclusive, witness Dutch photographers Erwin Olaf and Hendrik Kerstens pay homage to the traditional Flemish masters of the 16th century at Craig's Royal Hotel. Presented in collaboration with the Ballarat International Foto Biennale, the exhibition is on display until February 24. Meanwhile, Deny Christian's 'Passionism' is showing at Gallery on Sturt until December 22, and the Summer Exhibition of Art by the Ballarat Society of Artists Inc is at Trades Hall until December 23.
