IF YOU want to keep the kids entertained this summer, Ballarat has school holiday activities to keep you going for days, and days, and days...
Here is a list of five things to see and do during the holidays:
Ballarat's major attractions each have specially-tailored programs during the school holidays. Watch the infamous Redcoat soldiers arm and fire their rifles at Sovereign Hill, get up-close-and-personal with Alpine Dingoes at the Ballarat Wildlife Park, pet the Alpacas at Creswick Woollen Mills or watch a jousting demonstration at Kryal Castle. The options are endless!
2. Pools and Water Parks
The local swimming pools and free outdoor water parks are open all summer long. So sport your swimming best, pack a picnic lunch and get ready to cool right off.
Lake Wendouree's adventure playground and the Victoria Park all-inclusive playground are two of Ballarat's most-loved play spots. With BBQ facilities, toilets and sheltered areas, these playgrounds will have the kids going for hours. For an all-weather choice, indoor playhouse Fun Bugs will definitely satisfy, and even has an accompanying cafe to give Mum and Dad their much-needed caffeine hit.
4. Arts and crafts
The Art Gallery of Ballarat and Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka will both run interactive arts and crafts workshops during the school holidays. To further harness your child's creativity, make sure to check out I Made It Cafe for some summer craft sessions!
All this activity is bound to leave you requiring a wholesome feed. There are plenty of family-friendly dining options in Ballarat, including North Ballarat Sports Club, The Forge, Grill'd, Schnitz, Golden City Hotel and The Western Hotel. And for an extra special treat, make sure to hit up Il Piccolo Gelato for some gourmet goodness to cool you right off!
NB. Please remember to check Christmas trading hours when planning your visit.
